Vice Commodore Thomas J. Harrington and wife Alane will be joining us for the South West Florida kick-off festivities where they will be hosting the opening reception on Friday, April 13 and the Cocktails and Dinner planned on Saturday, April 14 at the Gasparilla Inn on Boca Grande. As you know this cruise will take place over the subsequent week from Boca Grande to Naples with rendezvous and social activities that can be enjoyed whether you participate by land or by sea. Some members are participating in the entire itinerary and others in selected portions.
 
Tom and Alane are looking forward to renewing their acquaintances with members in the Florida area and to returning after an absence of some years. Please join us in welcoming them and invite family and friends to join you as well.

1. Register for the Cruise by sending in the registration form

  • Whether you are coming by sea or by land (including your yacht details);
  • How many in your party and how you would like their names listed in the Cruise book;

Under the leadership of Lauretta Bruno, the Cruising Committee is hosting NYYC’s first Southwest Florida Cruise-in-Company for one week beginning April 13th, 2012.  The fleet will assemble in Boca Grande, Gasparilla Island for a welcoming reception at the Gasparilla Inn on Friday the 13th.  Activities include golf tournaments on Saturday and Sunday at the Gasparilla Golf Club, an informal lunch at the Boca Grande Club (hosted by NYYC members D. Fraser and M. Lyons) and Saturday dinner at the historic Gasparilla Inn.  Members or spouses and their guests are welcome to participate in all or part of our itinerary.
 
On Monday, April 16th we cruise to historic Useppa Island Club for a day visit with hiking, a visit to the Barbara Sumwalt Museum, refreshments at the home of Mr. & Mrs. C. Chapin and lunch outdoors at the Collier Inn.  In the afternoon, we depart for two nights at the South Seas Yacht Harbour Marina on Captiva Island were we will enjoy a wine dinner at the Captiva Island Yacht Club on Tuesday night.
 
On Wednesday we sail to St. Charles Yacht Club on the Caloosahatchee River in South Ft. Myers where we will visit the historic winter estates of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford with their botanical gardens, research lab and museum before enjoying an informal cruise dinner at the yacht club.  On Thursday we depart for the Naples Yacht Club.  On Friday morning, there is a special 1 hour tour of the Naples Botanical Gardens including the ZimSculpt, the acclaimed Zimbabwe stone scupture exhibit.  In the evening, cruise participants are invited to cocktails at the home of Mr. & Mrs. F. Rooney before the Farewell Dinner at the Naples Yacht Club.  The cruise disbands on Saturday.
 
A maximum yacht draft of 5 feet is recommended.  In addition to those on cruising yachts, members can participate with dayboats/day sailors or by automobile.  Sponsored guest privileges are available in transit to/from the cruise at Ocean Reef Club, Key Largo on the southern route, and, Sailfish Point Yacht Club, Hutchinson Island, Stuart on the west/east Okeechobee Waterway route. 

For members interested in chartering a boat for the cruise, Maritime Services Group Inc of Naples in cooperation with the Hinckley Company is offering Picinic Boat charters with captains to our members for this cruise.
