American Yacht Club

Rye, New York

The American Yacht Club was founded in New York City in 1883 with the initial purpose of “the development of steam yachting.” The Club relocated to Rye, New York in 1887, and the focus of the club evolved into cruising and racing under sail – shepherded by yachting legends like Olin J. Stephens II – and shaped by Olympic medalists and off-shore victories as well as an impressive junior program of 165 sailors.

Peter Duncan and Tom Blackwell have campaigned Etchells for many years with top finishes including third, fourth, and fifth in world championships.  They finished fifth in the 2010 USQS.  Both grew up sailing in the JAYC program.  Peter has won championships in 210s, J/35s, and currently has been racing Lightnings and 505s.  Jenny Wilson grew up sailing scows in Minnesota and sailed in college at the University of Minnesota.  Haley Rodriguez is a current JAYC sailor who races 420s; she just elected Jr. Commodore for 2013.
