Fishing Bay Yacht Club

Deltaville, Virginia

Fishing Bay Yacht Club members are serious about spending time racing in the ideal conditions of this quaint southern Chesapeake location. Formed in 1939, FBYC boasts a sailing schedule that rivals some of the busiest clubs in the nation with an annual regatta of over 100 entries. In addition to a nationally recognized junior program of 100+ sailors with traveling teams, the club consistently is among the highest fundraisers for the Leukemia Cup regattas. FBYC recently played host to the Optimist and Flying Scot National Championships.

Fishing Bay Yacht Club’s crew consists of Blake Kimbrough, John Wake, and Matt Braun. In addition to broad one-design experience, the crew has trained in the Sonar and, with limited availability, the J/70. They have sailed extensively in the Sonar they acquired in 2010 to train for that year’s USQS. The team also won FBYC’s Fall and Spring Series in PHRF C, placed third in PHRF C in Southern Bay Race Week, and plan to enter in the Marblehead NOOD, the New England Championship in Falmouth Mass., and the North Americans in Rochester, N.Y. A member of the winning team in the 2009 NYYC Invitational Cup, skipper Blake Kimbrough is moving from the bow to the back of the boat in a pursuit to represent his home yacht club where he started his sailing career.
