San Francisco Yacht Club

Belvedere, California

Founded in 1869, SFYC is the oldest yacht club on the Pacific coast, and a premier yachting facility. The SFYC has achieved acclaim for its active, successful race management program. Annual outside regattas include the Great San Francisco Schooner Regatta, the San Francisco Bay Area Leukemia Cup Regatta, and the 2012 Melges North American Championships.  The club will host the 2013 World Championships.  The SFYC’s premier junior sailing program also joins forces with race management and draws on the tremendous support of member-volunteers to host key events such as the 2008 US Sailing Youth Championships and 2011 Optimist Dinghy US Team Trials.

As the 2010 US Match Race Champion, the SFYC brings a team well-practiced in boat handling and teamwork. Skipper Shawn Bennett’s diverse sailing experiences, including the Vanguard 15, Melges 24, and J/105 provide solid preparation for the diversity of boat types sailed in this year’s USQS. Benett is supported by tactician Melissa Purdy, who was the 2003 US Rolex Sailor of the Year, Yngling world champion, America’s Cup sailor, and an Olympic campaign veteran. Crew members Tom Purdy and Jon Perkins are both multiple-time International Knarr champions.
