Youngstown Yacht Club

Youngstown, New York

Situated near the mouth of the Niagara River, Youngstown Yacht Club has been home to hundreds of racing sailors since it was founded in 1931. The club has a famous reputation for one-design sailing since establishing the first “Level Regatta”  in the 1970’s to allow boats with similar sailing characteristics to sail against one another without time allowances. Almost 40 years later, the Level Regatta remains among one of the premier sailing events on the Great Lakes with consistent attendance of more than 150 boats. Historically, the club has hosted many regional championships in addition to North American, national, and match-racing championships.

Team Youngstown’s skipper Chris Doyle is a fixture on the J/22 scene, having traveled to almost every J/22 championship event in North America in the last 15 years.  In 2012 alone, Doyle’s J/22 team has won their class at the J/22 Mid-winters, Annapolis NOOD, Canandaigua Jackrabbit, Cleveland Race Week, the Newport Regatta, and the Buffalo “Raw Bar” Regatta.  Crew members Jason and Steven Suitor round out the team with national competition experience in the Beneteau 36.7 class, as well as experience in the Melges 24 and J/22.
