Founed 1875

Chicago Yacht Club is the preeminent sailing organization on the Great Lakes, well known worldwide for excellence in leadership, training and race management for sailing. In its history, CYC has hosted numerous sailing regattas, from local training events to prestigious national and world championships. CYC also puts a high priority on boating education for both children and adults. Our Junior Sailing Program involves over 250 kids each year, and sends our Racing Team to regional, national and world events. The club hosts the largest annual sailing events in the mid-west, including the Sailing World NOOD Regatta and the Verve Cup Regatta. CYC's signature event is the Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac. At 333 miles the "Mac" race is the longest annual freshwater distance race in the world. In 2016, the 108th running, 327 yachts participated.

With Chicago Yacht Club’s high priority on teaching sailing and yachting to both children and adults this event is a perfect location for them to increase awareness of the sailing community.

“This event brings the best of the best from around the country together in one spot to compete,” says team skipper Kevin Teborek. “It's a great opportunity to increase the Yachting Community!”

After having a sail off series against other members Teborek was chosen to be skipper and Matthew Clark and Dan Gabriel were chosen for his crew. This will be the second time that Chicago Yacht Club will be competing in this event and Teborek says that the membership is excited.

While sails are provided and the rig tune standardized across the respective fleets there are always many different variables in sailing.

Teams will sail a two-day qualifying series on Narragansett Bay in both Sonars and Melges 20s. The top teams will move to the two-day Championship Series in Melges 20s, and the remaining teams will compete for Silver Fleet honors in Sonars. While experience in either boat can be an advantage, the Resolute Cup is anchored to the belief that the best sailors can make any boat go fast.

“The biggest thing is to remain calm and focused,” says Teborek. “There are many more variables that take place in this type of event. Sticking to the basics of racing will set you up for success!”
