CLUB HISTORY

Larchmont Yacht Club was founded in 1880 on Western Long Island Sound, and is the home base of a number of former intercollegiate All Americans, national champions and world champions. LYC sailors have a long history in America’s Cup competition and inshore, offshore and international racing at all levels. Each year LYC hosts a number of championship regattas, and Larchmont Race Week, now in its 118th running, and featured over 650 boats competing in 20 classes over 9 days in 2015.

ABOUT THE TEAM

This is LYC’s fourth appearance at the Resolute Cup, which it won in 2012. LYC was a close runner up at the 2013 Invitational Cup in Swan 42s. In preparation for the 2016 Resolute Cup, LYC’s Yachting Committee reached out to a number of top sailors. Due to the selection of the Melges 20, LYC focused its recruiting efforts on sailors with high performance sailing backgrounds. Skipper Andrew Mollerus may be the youngest skipper at the 2016 Resolute Cup, having just graduated from Harvard University in May 2016, but he will be fresh and battle tested from four years of intercollegiate sailing and international dinghy racing. Mollerus, a former member of the US Sailing Development Team in the 49er Class, will be training with his teammates in Melges 20s, Sonars and Viper 640s throughout the summer when he is not competing in his 49er in Europe as he commences his Olympic campaign for 2020. LYC Vice Commodore Andy Kaplan states, “Andrew is one of the most talented young sailors at our Club. We are very proud that a product of our junior sailing program will skipper the LYC Team at the Resolute Cup and we are confident that Andrew and his teammates will represent the Club well.” Tacitican Jamie Anderson and Peter Beardsley will round out the crew and provide some veteran keelboat experience.
