South Carolina Yacht Club, located in Windmill Harbour, is one of the most prestigious private clubs on Hilton Head Island. Members enjoy sailing and cruising year round as well as tennis, fitness facilities and fine dining. The harbor, with a 250-slip marina, is protected by a lock system. SCYC's first regatta in October 1989 inaugurated an annual schedule of races that includes the Carolina Ocean Challenge for one-design and PHRF boats, weekly racing year round for the Harbor 20 class and a competitive PHRF weekend series. The club's junior sailing program teaches 100 young sailors annually. The club has hosted the Carolina Ocean Challenge annually since 1992, and the Harbor 20 Class Southeast Championshiop annually since 2004. 


Skipper Joe Highsmith is a native of the Hilton Head, S.C. area. He has competed in numerous SORC and Key West Race Week campaigns as helmsman and crew chief, several Charleston Race Weeks and three J/105 North Americans as helmsman and in one-design racing in the Harbor 20 class for the past eight years as helmsman. Tactician Peter Gamble competed in the 2013 and 2012 US Sailing Championship of Champions events and in the US Sailing Singlehanded Championship representing Area D. Will Monts is a junior at Hilton Head Preparatory School where he is captain of the sailing team. Eric Norman has had a USCG 100-ton license with sailing endorsement since 2000. He currently is captain and manager of the renovation of a 1928 Elco motor yacht and other renovation projects.
