Carolina Yacht Club

club from battery - color

Charleston, S.C.

Founded 1883

The Carolina Yacht Club is located on "The Battery" in historic downtown Charleston. With direct access to Charleston Harbor, it claims to have the best sailing facility on the East Coast between Annapolis and Miami. The club recently underwent major renovations to the dining and ballroom facilities as well as a substantial expansion of the marina. In addition to hosting national, local and regional regattas, the club sponsors a highly successful junior program, which has an annual participation of 150 sailors. They have strong fleets of E-scows, Lightnings, Melges and Lasers. Their members have participated in The America's Cup, the Olympics and have won numerous national championships.

The team representing the Carolina Yacht Club in this year's USQS will be led by skipper Lenny Krawcheck, who is a two time Y-Flyer national champion, Lightning Atlantic Coast Champion, and has won the Lightning Southeastern District Championship a number of times. He has actively raced in a number of other one-design classes, including J/24s, MC Scows, and Lasers. Tactician George Scarborough is a two time Y-Flyer national champion and has raced as both skipper and crew in one-designs and keelboats, including Lightnings, Lasers, MC Scows, and J/24s. Horry Parker rounds out the team with extensive experience in J/24s and other keelboats. Lenny and his team were chosen to race after winning the Carolina YC Club Championship. The team had to race for two days and complete in seven races before being declared a clear winner.
