Founded in 1892, Seattle Yacht Club is one of the most active and established yacht clubs in the United States. The unique urban location of the main clubhouse on Portage Bay is complemented by the 10 gorgeous outstations located along the shores of Washington and British Columbia,what many consider to be the greatest cruising grounds in North America. SYC has a long history of competitive sailors succeeding at all levels including the Olympics, and the club sponsored two America’s Cup syndicates: 1974 with Intrepid and 2003 with oneWorld Challenge. Seattle Yacht Club is now home to more than 2,500 members and has an active junior sailing program. Opening Day, the club’s annual spring celebration, is the region’s premier on-the-water party. Seattle Yacht Club maintains reciprocity with more than 400 other boating groups around the world.

Skipper Andrew Loe has led the Seattle Yacht Club team from the 2012 Qualifying Series to the Invitational Cup. team Seattle practiced locally on boats similar to Swan 42s, and they sailed the Swan 42 Nationals in preparation for the 2013 Invitational Cup. There, they finished 10th but gained valuable knowledge of the Swan 42s and had a couple of top-five finishes in the last four races. loe was the helmsman for the SYC’s successful qualifying series, and will be the tactician on the Swan 42. Helmsman Derek Campbell will bring the core of his Melges 32 team with him, and most of the team have sailed together locally over the years. The team consists of recent junior program graduates teddy Weaver and Josh larsen, brothers Brian and Matt pistay, and Bates McKee and Darrin towe, who are veteran puget Sound sailors. Eric Dorman and Scott Smith, mastman and main trimmer, respectively, round out the talented squad.
