Handicap racing at the NYYC dates back as far as 1845—the New York Yacht Club’s second year of existence. The club conducted its first distance race on the ocean in 1858. The origin of one-design racing at the New York Yacht Club can be traced to 1900.
Highlights of the 2017 season include the 163rd Annual Regatta presented by Rolex in June, the J Class World Championship in August and the Melges 20 World Championship in October. In September, the Club will host the fifth Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, which is the premiere one-design keelboat championship for Corinthian sailors. NYYC will also be hosting the RI Leukemia Cup, the inaugural NYYC One-Design Regatta and a variety of team racing regattas...another full summer of racing activity!
In addition to these open or invitational regattas, there are also a number of member-only events including the 161st Annual Cruise in early August, Cruising events, and a variety of clinics and regattas in the Club's fleet of Sonars...the Team Racing Kick-Off, a members Match Racing Clinic/Regatta, the Member Fleet Racing Series and the Club Team Racing Championship...a perfect way to get involved and maybe learn a new discipline. Details for the member events can be found on the member side of the website.
We look forward to seeing you in Newport this coming summer summer!
