The NYYC's 154th Annual Regatta Presented by Rolex
Some of the world's hottest new IRC designs are gathering in Newport, R.I., this summer, and the New York Yacht Club 154th Annual Regatta presented by Rolex promises to provide the first glimpse of their collective-competitive prowess. "It's going to be ultra competitive," said Dan Meyers (Boston, Mass.) about the on-water action he expects at the June 13-15 event, which precedes the 2008 Newport to Bermuda Race, a high-profile ocean race for which these same boats are preparing. "It's the first time in years that a new group of race boats like this has formed, and it will be our first real go at each other."

Roy Disney & 'Morning Light' Preview 175 members and their guests enjoyed an evening with Roy Disney and wife Leslie DeMeuse-Disney in the Model Room of the NYYC on May 6. There they enjoyed a preview of the Disneys’ movie “Morning Light.” The idea for this documentary started out as a suggestion from Tom Pollock of the Transpac 52 Association. Roy Disney with his love of sailing and knowledge of film took the idea and put a plan into place: form a team of young people, train them to be ocean racers and then, watch what happens as the Transpac begins. The result was the new documentary that will be commercially released this fall. The Disneys were accompanied by five crew members from Morning Light. Dan Nerney photos.
