2024 Resolute Cup

September 9 to 14, 2024
Newport, R.I.

The Resolute Cup was first run in 2010 as the U.S. Qualifying Series for the Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup. The biennial regatta, which is sailed out of New York Yacht Club-Harbor Court, has since developed an identity of its own. Yacht clubs from around the United States send their best amateur sailors to Newport, R.I., to compete for national bragging rights and the possibility of a trip to the Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, sailing's premiere international Corinthian big-boat regatta. All competitors must be both World Sailing Group 1 competitors (i.e. amateur sailors) and full members of the club they are representing.

The 2024 Resolute Cup will feature up to 28 of the country's best yacht clubs sailing short courses in equalized boats with identical sails. Teams will sail a rotation against each other until the top 14 are broken out sometime on Saturday to sail in medal races worth double points. Camaraderie is a key component of the Resolute Cup; nightly social activities are hosted on the grounds of the New York Yacht Club Harbour Court.

Resolute Cup
Black, Star and Frost, New York
c. 1915

Trophy History: The Resolute Cup was originally presented to the yacht RESOLUTE in 1915 for winning the Long Island Series. It was rededicated in 2012 to be awarded to the winner of the U.S. Qualifying Series for the Invitational Cup, first held in 2010. The regatta was renamed in 2016 as the Resolute Cup. It is considered by many to be the US Corinthian fleet race championship. The winner also receives an invitation to compete in the following year’s Rolex NYYC Invitational Cup.

Awarding of the Trophy: The Resolute Cup is awarded biennially to a team representing a US yacht club at the regatta named for the trophy. All competitors must be both World Sailing Group 1 competitors (i.e., amateur sailors) and full members of the club they are representing.
