The RCNB has participated in each Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup with the exception of 2017, making this year the club's fifth go at the trophy.

The RCNB was established in 1879 and is one of Barcelona's oldest sailing clubs. The RCNB organizes many sailing events, including the annual Puig Vela Classical Barcelona sailing regatta for vintage yachts. The club is internationally renowned for its race management and its superb location in the center of Barcelona's harbor. RCNB is an associate founder of the Mediterranean International Committee, the Spanish Yacht Clubs Association, and Barcelona Sports and Culture. It is affiliated with the Spanish Royal Sailing Federation, the Catalan Sailing Federation, the National Royal Association of Cruisers, the Catalonian Federation of Speedboat Racing, and the Lonely Sailors Association. King Juan Carlos of Spain is a member, as was the late Juan Antonio Samaranch, former head of the International Olympic Committee.
